When Toyota replaced the Crown Coupe, he introduced Toyota Soarer in 1981. Immediately after it was introduced, it was recognized as a “car this year” in Japan. Is a luxury car with the latest technology, unlike other cars at that time. It is also saving fuel and high-performance cars according to Toyota, the name “Soarer” was inspired by super launchers.
Following its success in the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM), Toyota continued to produce Soarers for 24 years until it was stopped in 2005. According to Jerry, Toyota Soarer sold more competitors in Japan, namely Mazda Cosmo and Nissan Leopard. Apart from its success in Japan, the Toyota Soarer model was never released in North America. However, it plays an important role in accelerating Toyota’s dominance in the automotive market. Why is the car so important?
Toyota Soarer is a HALO car
Have you ever heard of a hello car? This is basically a beautiful car that is designed specifically to make consumers biased by other car models made by the same brand. Just like Supra, Toyota Soarer matches every description of the Halo car – even Toyota claims it is a “very special” car with better technology than other Toyota cars during its production years.
In fact, Toyota complements the new technology on the SOARER before using it on another car model. For example, the 1981 Toyota Soarer is the first car in the world to use a 6 -cylinder DOHC engine mounted with an oil pressure valve adjuster. Some other important technologies introduced to the 1981 Toyota Soarer include automatic air conditioning, and the first electronic controlled suspension in the world.
It has not been completed- Toyota introduced the first colorful CRT dashboard display in the world in 1985. The CRT screen helped the driver to analyze the condition of the engine, drive train, and fuel savings- and if the car was parked, you can use it to watch television programs. Six years later, in 1991, the third generation Toyota Soarer was launched, upgraded with traction control, automatic rear wheel steering system, and a 6 -inch LCD screen with GPS navigation.
Lexus SC is a twin brother of Toyota Soarer
Following the success of the Lexus LS 400 in the US, Toyota tried to imitate that momentum with a luxurious coupe. As a result, the Lexus SC 400 debuted in the US in 1991, two years after the Lexus LS 400 was introduced. Lexus SC 400 is based on the JDM Toyota Soarer design (through popular science). In other words, Soarer and Lexus SC are twin brothers, and they are produced in the same factory by Toyota starting in March 1989. Lexus SC 400 uses the same V8 engine installed in Lexus LS 400 and 1991 to 1993 Toyota Soarer.
Similar to Soarers in Japan, the Lexus SC brand received critical praise in the US – Lexus SC 400 even named “Import Car of the Year” by MotorTrend in 1992. Another version that is cheaper than the Toyota Soarer with smaller machines introduced to the US on 1992; It is known as the Lexus SC 300.
The Lexus SC lineup will not be complete without the convertible model, and the Lexus SC 430 – which is identical to the JDM Soarer Z40 Series – debuted in the US in 2001 (via Autozine). Lexus SC 430 is equipped with a 300 hp V8 engine and 5-speed automatic transmission. So, even though the Soarer never arrived at the U.S. Beach, we here in the state still have a sense of the Lexus SC lineup.
