A number of cases and case reports have been published for years involving a vegetable diet as a way to reduce or eliminate certain chronic conditions. The latest example of this recently was published in the BMJ Case Reports, a peer-review publication, where doctors revealed that a vegetable diet full of dark green leafy vegetables offers men’s relief from chronic migraines he suffered for more than a decade.
When treatment fails
Chronic migraine is a weakening problem that might arise with or without aura. A number of drugs are available through a prescription to treat conditions, but its efficacy can vary and some patients do not experience help. Other methods for controlling this condition can include eliminating “triggers” such as certain foods or substances, adjusting a person’s lifestyle to reduce stress, and more, according to WebMD.
This new case study depicts a male patient who has a severe migraine without aura for about 12 years. Despite treatment with specified drugs and lifestyle changes, the man cannot find help from these conditions. Chronic migraine refers to an example where a person experiences 15 or more migraine episodes in one month besides the “migraine feature” at least eight days a month.
Relief from diet
Patients described in a new case report experienced migraine on 18 to 24 days a month for half a year before getting a clinical referral. After examining the patient, doctors advise him to switch to low inflammatory food every day (life), which is a whole vegetable food that emphasizes nutritional solid food (through Harvard Health).
As part of this diet, the man consumes at least five ounces of dark green leafy vegetables that are cooked or every day in addition to limiting certain foods, especially red meat and milk. From the notes, the author behind the case report shows that dark green vegetables such as water spinach and spinach are full of nutrients that help cool inflammation in the body.
It only takes two months in a lifetime diet for anonymous patients described in the case report to experience help – the migraine episode drops to one day per month, is less severe, and does not survive during the previous. Relief is large enough so that the patient can stop taking medicine for chronic migraines.
Migraine stopped fully after three months of diet and, on the case of the case report was issued, they had not returned in more than seven years. In addition, doctors note that the symptoms of patient allergies are also quite decreased so that he can stop taking seasonal allergic drugs.
There is one large potential limit for case reports, namely that HIV positive patients and use antiretroviral drugs, which may contribute to the severity of their migraine conditions. However, doctors note that adopting high -quality vegetable diet may be proven effective for other chronic migraine sufferers and, unlike drugs, will not come with unwanted side effects.
Not the first time
This is not the first time the case report detailed the use of a change of vegetable diet to send chronic conditions into remission. In 2019, a case study was published in nutrition that detailed a man suffering from Crohn who failed to respond to typical treatment.
The unnamed individual adopted a vegetable diet for 40 days-not to treat his Crohn disease, but rather as a religious activity. However, the patient found that during the period of time when his diet changed, the symptoms of his Crohn disappeared, forcing him to continue the diet outside the period of religious observation.
Patient diet includes avoiding triggering foods such as processed goods and all animal products, instead of focusing on healthy alternatives such as nuts, vegetables, seeds, and fruit. The doctor conducted a test that revealed that the patient had experienced “complete mucosal healing,” which allowed him to remove the medicine.
While a new case study that detailed migraine relief quoted anti-inflammatory plant compounds found in dark green vegetables as a source of potential assistance, Crohn case reports focus on different potential mechanisms: sharp increases in food fibers equipped with plants based and changes Intestinal bacteria that might occur because of it.
